FREE IRISH LANGUAGE PHONE APPS FOR ST. PATRICKS DAY

To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge and St. Patrick's festival, Maithú, an Irish IT company are launching two FREE Irish language applications for the iPhone and Google Android App stores.

The 'Get the Focal Irish Translator' is a two way Irish-English, English-Irish Translator with a database of over 13,000 words and terms which live in your pocket. It is quick and accurate, can be used for completing that Irish assignment, reading articles as Gaeilge, or filling in a ‘cúpla focal’ here and there. If you're looking for help with speaking Irish then try our full version which contains pronunciations for all translations.

Existing 'Get the focal' users can upgrade their application for free to get access to the improved functionality. New users can find the app on the iTunes App store for €2.99

SLIEVE BLOOM FOODS SCOOP MAJOR AWARD!

Slieve Bloom Farmhouse Foods has won First Prize in the Best Emerging Food Product Category for their Slievebloom Irish Cranberry Chutney at the recent Listowel Food Fair 2009 (November 5th and 6th ).

It is not the first time that owner, Ciara Morris, has won an award of this kind. She is the proud recipient of many awards, including the 'Great Taste Awards' in London, where she has won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.

SKILLS FOR WORK: FAS/VEC INITIATIVE

Free Training for Employees available through the Skills for Work Programme. The programme provides a variety of courses which can lead to qualifications up to Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework. These are Essential Skills, Work Related Skills and Basic Communications Skills. A SFW programme can include a variety of subjects which support the educational needs of the employee. The programme is offered on company premises where possible, the local VEC Adult Education Centre, or an alternative convenient location. The SfW programme is designed and delivered in a flexible and adaptable way to meet the needs of the employer and employee.
